The Sort Your Life Out host shared a personal update with fans after previously telling them of their ‘devastating’ family news
Stacey Solomon has said the ‘days have been so long and tough’ as she shared a personal update with fans after previously telling them of their ‘devastating’ family news.
Last month (April), Stacey confirmed the upsetting news that her family’s beloved dog, Teddy, had suddenly became unwell and that they were told he ‘might not ever fully recover’.
Sharing pictures of her cuddling pet pooch Teddy, who had cannulas wrapped in bandages on his leg, Stacey informed her 6.1 million after the Easter weekend: “Our darling Teddy. Teddy became suddenly unwell on Thursday.
“It turns out he has a predisposed condition we had no idea about, as he was a rescue. He has been operated on by incredible vets and the next 3-4 days are crucial for him to get through, even then, he might not ever fully recover.
“We are praying and hoping so hard that he pulls through & that we can care for him in the best way we possibly can to give him the best life he can have.
“We are all truly devastated. He is the sweetest, most protective, loving dog. He’s our family. And far too young to be going through this. We love you Ted. So so much. Pickle Cottage is far too quiet without you. I miss my toilet buddy. Peanut is so sad without his best friend.”
It was then towards the end of April that Stacey updated her fans after a period of social media silence. She explained that Teddy had made it through the operation and the high-risk period in the days that followed the surgery.
She has dedicated herself to his care, adjusting her work schedule to be with him. Stacey admitted: “I have moved my work to work from home and cancelled some things so that I can try and help him recover.”
The star performs daily physiotherapy with Teddy and must express his bladder throughout the day, with the pup remaining on medication and crate rest for at least four weeks following his operation. Expressing his bladder has been a whole humbling experience…”
Stacey also told how Teddy’s future still remains uncertain, with only a “30 per cent chance he might recover fully”. She ent on: “There’s also a massive chance that he’s going to be disabled and unable to urinate for himself and involuntary poos,” before adding that he may need “a lot of physio and help for the rest of his life”. She added: “This might be Teddy forever.”
Now, Stacey has shared a new message with fans in the latest edition of her newsletter. The Loose Women star typed to her loyal following: “Sorry that I have been so quiet… I have missed you all. I wanted to use this month’s newsletter to give you all an update on Teddy, as I have had so many lovely messages from you all showing your concern. I am so grateful for him being in all your thoughts.
She went on to explain what happened, with Teddy suddenly losing the use of his back legs before vets later confirmed he’d suffered a burst disc with his spine “really worn” as the result of a predisposed condition.
Stacey continued to write: “Thank goodness, he is now home, and I am so grateful and happy that I got to bring him home. He managed to make it through the operation, but it was the time after where we were all most worried as we didn’t immediately know if it would work. I am so grateful that he is still with us.
“So, what does that mean now? Obviously, he’s not really well still and has had major surgery. He’s on crate rest and a routine of physio for the next 4 weeks at least. He then goes in for a check-up and we’ll see where we go from there. There’s a 30% chance he may fully recover but there’s a high chance he may never fully recover and this will be Teddy forever.
“This would mean lots of physio and care for the rest of his life, so I’m figuring all of that out and taking every day as it comes. Our biggest priority as a family right now is trying to do as much as possible for him to give him the best life we can. We will continue to try and make him as happy and as comfortable as possible.
“I have been working from home, doing whatever I can to try and help him recover. I’ve been taking meetings in the kitchen so that Ted can sit with me and doesn’t get lonely. It’s also been lovely weather this week, so Ted has been able to sit in the garden with me while I do some gardening.
“This has kept me sane this week and has been my self-care… you all know how much I love my gardening! Every visitor to Pickle Cottage has been giving Ted so much attention and affection (I actually think people are coming here to see him instead of me…)”
She added: “The days have been so long and tough for Ted and me (his first medication is at 5am and his last one is at 9pm) but of course every second is worth it to try and give him the happiest and healthiest life we can.”
Stacey also rounded off by saying: “Sorry that this newsletter has looked a little different to the others, but it didn’t feel right for me to talk about anything else with all of this going on. My animals are my family, and we love Teddy so much. Thank you again for all your concern and support. It means so much to me, Joe and the kids that Teddy is in your thoughts.”
