Chatting on his BBC Radio 2 show recently Vernon Kay gave an insight into his home life with Tess Daly, as he explained how he “paid the price” for one thing
BBC Radio 2 star Vernon Kay has shared an insight into his home life as he revealed how he “paid the price” after disappointing his Strictly Come Dancing host wife Tess Daly.
Chatting to his Radio 2 co-star, Ellie Brennan, Vernon shared how there’s going to be a “double whammy in our house” this weekend as Tess celebrates her 56th birthday today (March 29) and will join fellow mums around the country as they bask in the Mother’s Day festivities tomorrow.
But Ellie shared how she had not received any gifts from her partner before she had left for work on her birthday morning.
And Vernon revealed how he had been in a similar predicament just last year, admitting that he had now “learnt his lesson”.
Addressing Ellie’s partner directly, Vernon said: “Steffan, been there, not done that and paid the price, so we are ready to go this weekend.”
Meanwhile, the former Family Fortunes star recently gave another insight into his relationship with Tess, whilst speaking on his Radio 2 show.
He described how there’d “be trouble” if he got one thing wrong: “Well, the thing is, Tess loves cake. Yeah, and if I was to attempt cake and it wasn’t as good as what you can buy in the supermarket, then there’d be trouble, so I just buy in.”
Having met in 2001 while both where relatively near the beginning of their broadcasting careers, with Vernon currently working on Channel 4 while Tess was on ITV, it was two years later that the couple would tie the knot.
Since then the husband and wife have gone on to have two children together, Phoebe and Amber, born in 2004 and 2008.
In the years that followed, the celebrity couple have claimed huge career successes, with appearance on both TV and radio in recent times.
In one of his first major TV roles, Vernon presented Family Fortunes for over 10 years before landing his own slot on BBC Radio 2’s mid-morning show in 2023 after he took over from Ken Bruce.
Similarly, Tess has also seen a sharp career trajectory, initially working as a model, she later decided to pursue a career in broadcasting.
After presenting a slew of shows including Smash Hits TV, SMTV Live and Back To Reality, her career highlight came in 2004 when she began co-hosting BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing, a position she has held ever since.
